Wow. I sit here astonished at the thought of how long I have gone without healthcare professionals who look like me and are from the same/similar backgrounds. I am excited that Tinted has healthcare professionals who understand and relate to me on a closer level. There’s huge value in people of color having access to healthcare from within their culture.
Having the ability to be introduced to a wide range of health professionals that look and sound like me is heaven sent. This is important to me because it makes me feel safer. Representation on all levels matter to me, and having access to something as important as this cannot be measured.
Today access to proficient, adequate, and understanding healthcare providers is imperative to one’s health. In the underserved communities finding someone who understands my disease process and how my background plays a role is important. Tinted will help me improve my health in ways I can actually achieve.
It is well known that race plays an important role in patient outcomes. So it’s important for our black communities to see Providers that look like them and can relate to them. Racism in medicine has a long standing history which still exists today. As a result, people of color have lost their faith in the system and healthcare providers. With the ongoing alarming increase of health disparities within the Black Communities, African American representation matters and is vital to alleviate some of these pressing issues especially for pregnant moms to be.
I can’t begin to quantify how many times people in my network, myself included, have looked to find and connect with minority doctors. There is an innate comfort and honesty that can and will exist within these relationships. These factors are the building blocks of effective healthcare interactions and outcomes. I’m excited to be a user of this platform!
A platform like Tinted Health is necessary in today’s world. As a black health care provider I’ve witnessed many patients who harbor mistrust and fear towards healthcare because of unfortunate outcomes that statistically are outweighed in black and brown communities i.e. adverse events in the black maternal/infant population.
On the opposing end many black and brown migrants from other countries value and eagerly embrace the healthcare guidance from providers who although may be well intended, don’t look like them and who will never fully understand their experiences and needs.
I believe it is necessary for US to have access to providers that look like US. Who understand that healthcare isn’t a one size fits all. Tinted health makes it convenient for patients to find providers and allows a level of comfort while navigating the world of healthcare. Its refreshing to be able to access a database of providers who look like me.
Having a platform where I can access health care providers that look like me is extremely important. As a man, stereotypically I hate doing to the doctor as is…at least if I had the option to search for doctors who are relatable, that would make the experience more tolerable.
Also, recently while searching for a therapist, it took me about 2 months to find someone. I really wanted a person of color, and that proved to be very difficult. Tinted would have been handy when I began this search.
I am excited about this platform especially for our black and brown communities that have be ravaged by COVID-19. Being a respiratory therapist and seeing the damage that has been done by existing health disparities is troubling. I want all my patients to have access to care and more importantly feeling comfortable to seek out that care with a familiar face. I love this platform because it elevates black and brown voices to start making change within healthcare on the home front. I believe patients will be excited to use this database and frequently.
As a black female physician I am keenly aware that health disparities exists, which are different when it comes to health outcomes across all races. What is evermore important is the eradication of health inequity, which is a systemic disease plaguing our society. Seeing yourself in the person that is tasked to take care of you or your loved one is one step forward in correcting this inequity. This is why I love TINTED and what they represent. Looking forward to adding all my colleagues to this platform.
Having access to providers that are able to provide culturally competent care should be normalized among minorities. We’ve all had distressing moments when clinicians haven’t quite been able to relate to our distinct needs and we may have left feeling unsettled or as though our needs were unmet. It is exciting to have a platform that is making it easy for minority patients to feel empowered with their care, and to have options to see providers within their communities that can relate on a personal level to daily activities.
